Avalanche Incident

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (Reuters) - An avalanche killed 11 people in a mountainous area of Tajikistan Monday, the Central Asian state's Emergency Situations Committee said.
The wall of snow buried a house with 12 people inside, most of them women and children, a spokesman for the committee told Reuters. Only one person survived.
The avalanche, near the village of Dzhamiat Rokhaty about 60 miles east of the Tajik capital Dushanbe, followed several days of heavy snowfalls in the former Soviet state.
Heavy snow and thick fog have also complicated deliveries of humanitarian aid to northern provinces of neighboring Afghanistan, where thousands of people were killed by earthquakes earlier this month.
